Sofia Kievskaya

The cathedral of Saint Sofia was built in the 19th century in the centre of Kiev by the order of Yaroslav the Wise. The cathedral’s outward appearance was rebuilt in Ukrainian baroque style at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. Inside the cathedral you can see a lot of ancient frescos and mosaics including the famous mosaic of the Virgin Mary Orant. The cathedral of Saint Sofia was the first historic landmark in Ukraine to be included into the UNESCO world heritage list.
