Crimea Peninsula on South-West ends with triangle brow of Heraclea Peninsula or Trakhejsky Peninsula. Corner of this triangle is Chersoneses Mull (Phanar on old maps), and the base of this triangle is a conventional straight line from the headwater of Sevastopolska (North, Big) and Balaklava bays. Traces of human life before foundation of Tauric Chersoneses and colonization of surrounding area are almost completely eliminated by the tremendous land-use planning of antic times and building of Sevastopol city. According to the legend, the birth of Chersoneses was predicted by Delphian oracle, who told, that Greeks shall live in Tauris. Name of the city is translated from Greek as “peninsula”. Chersonese was located on the mull between two bays – winding Carantinna and roundish Pesochna.
Ruins of Chersonese are one of seven wonders of Ukraine.
