All saints day this year falls on a Monday - in the night from October 31 to November 1, it is natural that all the festivities will be held in the preceding weekend - 29 - 30th October.
Different regions of Ukraine in its own festive events. And it is not clear why the official press calls this feast the "new" Ukraine. As far as I remember - in the Donbass, exactly where now a war on occupied territories of Russia, and not only in rural areas - cutting out the pumpkin was common. If it was originally a holiday - I don't remember , but it was the 50-60-ies of the last century.
How often do we "new" called the old, long - forgotten, probably you often "nazyvyut"?.
