The Chernobyl nuclear power plant began to receive tourists

In the state specialized enterprise "Chernobyl NPP" announced the opening of the programmes of visits for all comers to the station, where 32 years ago took the biggest accident in history of nuclear power.

 

"Now everyone can see how today works ChNPP is the process of decommissioning and transformation of the Shelter object into ecologically safe system", — is reported on the official website of the plant. The program of the visit, the so-called route "Basic", provides a trip by train from city Slavutych of Kyiv region through the checkpoint "semihody", visit protective structures, and boards of management of the Shelter facility and new safe confinement, the memorial to liquidators of the accident at the station, the bypass channel catfish, lunch in the dining room for the station staff.

 

Duration of trip — one day. In the cost of attendance includes instruction, support, interpreter services, personal protective equipment. Insurance is carried out by the visitors themselves. To visit the station, you need to fill online application form on the website of the station.

 

It is noted  "the main attention will be paid to security measures for visitors" and that they "will be provided with all necessary personal protective equipment and will undergo a mandatory radiation control".

 

"We must remember that the Chernobyl nuclear power plant remains a nuclear facility, and we, as before, strictly adhere to all safety requirements for such enterprises. However, we try to be as open and transparent, try to minimize the number of barriers for the visitors, denying them the complex patterns of coordination of the visit. I am convinced that such changes will provide additional steps to positive transformation in the country", — said General Director of Chernobyl nuclear power plant Igor Gramotkin.

 

The Chernobyl nuclear power plant located near the town of Pripyat, 18 km from the city of Chernobyl, 16 km from the border with Belarus and 110 km from Kiev. The nuclear accident in Chernobyl occurred on 26 April 1986. The explosion destroyed 4-th unit in the sights and threw a large amount of radioactive substances. The accident is regarded as the largest of its kind in the history of nuclear power, as by prospective quantity of victims and affected by its consequences and the economic damage.

 

At the time of the accident in 1986 the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was the most powerful in the USSR.
