International tourism is growing annually by 5%, despite the growing challenges and risks the safety of travelling, told journalists the Chairman of the world Council of travel and tourism (World Travel and Tourism Council, WTTC) Gerald lawless.
"The annual growth of international tourism is 5%, despite all the difficulties and security issues. People in social networks to share their experiences, impressions, emotions and thus to develop tourism even without our participation. This year we see the growth of tourism in many markets, including Turkey, which is recovering after the recession of 2016", - he said at a press conference in celebration of the 25th anniversary international tour of OTI holding in Antalya, Turkey.
D. lawless recalled that the contribution of tourism to global GDP reaches 10%. Tourism creates more than 290 million or 10% of jobs, giving employment, including youth and women.
"In 2016, in the world there were more than 1.2 billion tourist trips. Very fast growing Chinese outbound tourism market, last year traveled abroad 130 million Chinese tourists. I live in Dubai and I see a lot of tourists from China. I think both Turkey and other countries will be able to take advantage of this huge market," he said.
D. lawless expressed his hope that the world will be more widely used system of electronic visas.
"We see that if the country moves to electronic visa, it allows you to attract more foreign tourists. In addition, we believe that visas should not be issued on a national basis, and by the fact whether the person is suitable for the country where he travels. Many of the recent terrorist attacks in Europe were perpetrated not by visitors but by those who were born in European countries," he said.
