In Kiev the Lviv area solemnly opened a monument to the Queen of France, Anna Yaroslavna. In the official ceremony of opening the monument was attended by diplomats, representatives of the Ukrainian government and local authorities.
"Anna definitely did not imagine that one day in the beginning of XXI century, another woman, a native of France - I - will unveil the statue erected in her honor in the center of her hometown," said the Ambassador of France in Ukraine Isabelle Dumont.
She also noted that the monument is to remind everyone that Anna of Kiev became the first person, which marked the beginning of relations between Ukraine and France.
"The contacts that were built up over centuries and significantly intensified after Ukraine gained independence in 1991. Connection that feed on active cooperation in all fields. Ties that France will strengthen and develop in the future for a United, free and strong Ukraine, that in Europe, where the Kievan Rus had already once held its rightful place," the Ambassador said.
