Long-suffering Gostiny Dvor in Kontraktovaya square in Kiev slowly but surely destroyed. Which only scrapes did not get old building with 200 years history. It was illegally rented out, then began the construction and defended. A couple of years ago the building burned even!

Gostiny Dvor shopping complex on Kontraktova square, which began in 1809, but because of the war with Napoleon managed to build only one floor. During the large-scale reconstruction, dedicated to the 1500th anniversary of Kiev, the building was completely demolished and rebuilt according to the original two-storey project.

In 2011, Gostiny Dvor was suddenly deprived of the status of a monument of architecture, and next spring the city Council has authorized the reconstruction of the building for retail and office center, built with a glass roof. Some time later, the court decided to terminate the lease agreement for the land plot.

The city government offers to pass the Gostiny Dvor (if it will restore) the Museum of history of Kiev, most of the exhibits which is in the vaults.

From any point on the Kontraktova square you can see the ragged walls of the arcade. The columns cracked, tightened the metal brackets, here and there crumbled brickwork, supports a stream, the walls emerges fittings.
