Opening of Christmas tree in Kiev 2015-2016

The lights of the main Christmas tree will be lit in the historical heart of Kiev on December 19.

The main new year tree will light up the center of Kiev with colored lights at approximately 18:00 on Saturday, 19 December 2015, the Day of St. Nicholas. Opens it himself Saint Nicholas, who will become the owner of all the holidays, as well as its guests of honor.

Since last year the main Christmas tree decided to move to St. Sophia square in Kiev. Previously, it was annually established on the Maidan of Independence, however, in the course of the civil action in winter 2013-2014 in support of Ukraine's European integration, which was dispersed by the security forces under the pretext of the need to ensure the installation of the Christmas tree and the Christmas village, "Christmas tree" for the protesters became the symbol of arbitrary power and tyranny Milicejskaja. During the mass protests the supporting structure of the tree was partially dismantled, the elements of artificial pine needles were used by protesters to build barricades. Left frame was decorated with national and European symbols.

Like last year, the Main Christmas tree of the country will be present. It was brought from the Carpathians.

Main arena of the new year holidays 2015-2016 season in Kiev will be sophiiska and Mykhailivska square, but also connects them Vladimirsky passage. At the Sofia area will set the Main Christmas tree, a stage for performances of Ukrainian artists and a Playground for selfie and baby hills around the monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky. At St. Michael's square will be the Residence of St. Nicholas. Vladimirsky passage, which is the holiday period going into Christmas, will connect St. Sophia and St. Michael square, a huge gastronomic sector, which will be served hot sausages, mulled wine, Christmas cakes and other Goodies.

The street Khreshchatyk and other Central streets of Kyiv will light the festive Christmas illuminations.
