Today Ukraine celebrates Day of Dignity and Freedom!

21 of November is one of the most important holidays in the history of independent Ukraine - the Day of Dignity and Freedom.

 

Three years ago, on 21 November 2013, after the refusal of Ukrainian authorities to sign an Association Agreement with the European Union began the mass in the modern history of the state protest. In particular, at the Independence square in the capital, protesters set up tents and stayed there around the clock. On the night of 30 November 2013 the riot police "Berkut" beat up dozens of activists, mostly young people, and then to the streets of Ukraine left hundreds of thousands of citizens.

 

The protests lasted from late November until the end of February 2014 and received the name Euromaidan, and later the Revolution of dignity. In the result, then-President Viktor Yanukovich after the mass shooting of unarmed civilians in the center of Kiev, fled to Russia. On may 25, was appointed elections of the President of Ukraine. The elections were won by Petro Poroshenko, who on 27 June 2014 signed an Association Agreement with the EU.

 

With the third anniversary of the revolution of dignity compatriots congratulated the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, saying that it proved the unity of Ukrainians in the desire to be independent.

 

"Day of Dignity and Freedom, the Ukrainians! Together we proved that we are United in the desire to be independent and to live in a democratic country!" - said in greeting the Prime Minister on his page in Facebook.

 

The Prime Minister thanked everyone who "fought and is fighting for Ukraine", and also urged citizens to remember them.

 

The events of Euromaidan in 2013-2014 proved the desire of Ukrainians for democracy. And on 13 November, 2014, President Petro Poroshenko signed a decree on establishing a new holiday in honor of those events, which is celebrated on November 21.

 

Events for the third anniversary of the revolution of Dignity will be held traditionally on the Maidan, as well as in museums and other Metropolitan areas. On the Day of dignity and Freedom 2016 in Kiev will be held the March Revolution. The event starts at 19:00.
