Despite the fact that Odessa is relatively young city, more than 200 years old – the foundation of the city began in 1794 – it almost matches many other cities in Ukraine cities of Ukraine with a millennial history by the number of monuments, pieces of art, and museums. The city was built on the basis of the plan drawn up by the Dutch military engineer F. Devollan on the decree of the Russian Empress Catherine II. Rapidly growing prosperity of the city, based on the presence of the commercial port and associated with the development of trade, has greatly contributed to the luxury and beauty of the architecture of the buildings erected in Odessa.
