Chernovtsy was first mentioned in history in the 14th century. It is situated on the picturesque banks of the Prut River approximately 40 km away from the border of Rumania. The city is rich in outstanding monuments of architecture representing all periods of its history. An architectural complex of the former residence of the Bukovina metropolitans, currently Chernovtsy National University, is a unique sight included into the UNESCO world heritage list and in the list of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine.
