Museum of “ Painted Easter Egg”

The museum was built in the year 2000 in the town of Kolomyia. The central part of the museum is made in the shape of huge painted Easter egg 14 metres in height. This masterpiece of architectural art is the biggest painted Easter egg in the world and has become a prime attraction of Kolomyia. The museum’s inauguration took place on the 23 September 2000 during the International Guzul festival. The concept was developed by the museum Director Yaroslav Tkachuk and was embodied by two Kolomyia artists Vasiliy Andrushko and Miroslav Yasinskiy. The uniqueness of the museum is not only in its shape, a painted Easter egg 14 metres in height and 10 metres in diameter, but also in the materials used as it is completely made from coloured glass. The total area of the stained-glass window is more than 600 m2. The museum exposition represents ornamental, composite, and the colour wealth of the national polychromic artwork. Nowadays, there are more than 6000 painted Easter eggs from most regions of Ukraine (Ternopol, Lviv, Vinnitsa, Cherkassy, Kirovograd, Odessa, etc.) and also from Pakistan, Sri-Lanka, Belarus, Poland, Czech Republic, Sweden, the USA, Canada, France, and India. Some museum pieces were made at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The winning nominees have been given a statuette made of a green marble, a mat steel, and golden glassy acrylic as rewards. The museum of the “Painted Easter Egg” in Kolomyia is the only museum dedicated to the Easter Egg painting in the whole world.
