The National dendrology park ‘Sofiyivka’ is both a park and Research Institute of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine. It is situated on the banks of the Kamenka river in the northern part of the city of Uman in Cherkasy region.
Nowadays, it is a well-known place of rest. About 500 000 people visit "Sofiyivka" every year. The total area of the park is 179.2 hectares. The park is a monument of the world landscape gardening art of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In the park one can see more than 3323 taxa (species, forms, varieties, cultivars), native and exotic trees and shrubs: cypress, pine Weymouth, tulip tree, sycamore, ginkgo, spruce, and many others. The catalogue of plants contains 1994 taxa: of 1220 trees and shrubs and 774 herbaceous plants, including 25 taxa of hazel, 24 beeches , 41 spruces , 100 lianas, 320 roses , 57 rhododendrons , 376 arboreal and 98 flowering plants. In 2007 the collection of plants in the park included 2103 taxa of arboreal and 1212 herbaceous plants. In 1985 a small planet #2259 was named "Sofiyivka" in honour of Uman park.
