Shatsky National Natural Park is located in the Volyn region, in the west of one of the largest bog-lacustrine-timber complex in Europe, the region of Polesye and was established in 1983 aiming to preserve rare natural complexes in the district of Lakes of Shatsk. The general area of the park is 48977 hectares, 18810 of which are hand over for the permanent use. On the territory of the park 789 species of plants are vegetated, 32 of them are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. Lakes are of particular value, totaling 23, and 5 of them are the biggest with an area of water surface over 200 hectares, but Svitiaz Lake is the largest and deepest natural lake in Ukraine. The water of the lake is fresh, clean and drinkable, has a neutral pH. In summer the water in the lakes is warmed-up enough that along with the presence of relatively pristine natural sites attracts a lot of holidaymakers and tourists.
